Westside Middle School Cafeteria Renovation

The Westside Middle School cafeteria expansion reimagines a vital shared space—doubling its seating capacity while introducing a light-filled, welcoming environment that reflects the energy of its students. Large, strategically placed windows flood the space with natural light, fostering a sense of openness and connection throughout the school day.

Architecturally, the addition was carefully designed to feel like a natural extension of the existing building. Materials and forms were chosen to echo the original campus design, ensuring cohesion while introducing fresh elements that signal renewal. Below the cafeteria, a new lower-level storage area improves daily functionality and builds in flexibility for the future.

We asked Westside Middle School students, “What could your new cafeteria look like?” This student engagement directly inspired custom environmental graphics that are fun, welcoming, and celebrate all things middle school.

In tandem with the expansion, outdated mechanical systems were replaced to enhance comfort, reliability, and efficiency. Through close collaboration with MEP consultants, the renovation prioritizes performance and sustainability—positioning the school to meet the evolving needs of its students and staff for years to come.
