Fremont Elementary Schools
As part of the $129M Fremont Bond Program, three new elementary schools were designed for the district. Having performed all FPS work since 1999, BVH inherently understood District standards and aspirations. During the pre-bond phase, the BVH team led an Educational Alignment process where new safety and security protocols, updated specialized education, and counseling design standards were implemented. District leadership and site educators knew that more space was needed and break-out spaces in each of these commons areas would be a great step forward for modern teaching and learning practices.
The desire for the same plan to fit three vastly different sites was a driving factor for the plan layout. 2/3 of the project sites replaced existing buildings that remained in operation throughout construction. The neighborhood context of each site varies widely, from complete residential surrounds at one site to a mostly light commercial environment at the new site. Signage and colored entries were the only elements that the district desired to differentiate the three building designs. Each site was specifically considered for future expansion and flexibility.
