Public Building Commission Parking Garage Expansion

The City/County Parking Garage Expansion builds upon an existing structure that was originally designed to accommodate additional floors. This vertical expansion provides increased parking capacity to meet growing municipal and public needs while maintaining alignment with the surrounding civic campus.

The project prioritizes clear, safe circulation through the separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Dedicated access points and improved wayfinding systems reduce conflicts and enhance the overall user experience. Circulation paths are designed for intuitive use, with consistent material changes and clear signage to guide movement throughout the facility.

The expanded garage reflects the architectural context of adjacent City/County buildings through coordinated scale, rhythm, and material palette. The façade integrates variations in concrete texture along with durable accent materials such as phenolic panels and metal screens. A mural wall is included on the north façade to provide a location for public art and community identity.

The design also incorporates sustainable features, including a rooftop photovoltaic array that offsets energy use. Public and private parking areas are clearly delineated. Fall protection for pedestrians is integrated into the design through guardrails and edge protection that meet safety codes while maintaining visual clarity.

This project elevates a basic infrastructure component into a cohesive part of the civic environment—functional, efficient, and supportive of long-term urban growth.
