Hastings Perkins Library

Located in the historic core of the Hastings College campus, Perkins Library was adapting to the evolving role of library services and programming, while broader campus planning efforts shifted student and faculty amenities to other areas of the campus.

BVH worked with the College to reconsider the use of the library, provide additional programming space through hi-flex spaces and furniture, and generate a draw to utilize the facility. A campus cafe inserted into the first floor of the existing library provides a buzz of new energy, while an adjacent outdoor plaza supports the cafe and encourages interaction. A trellis provides shade, a linear fire pit encourages lingering, and moveable outdoor furniture ensures groups can gather comfortably.

Inside, the entire first floor was reconstituted to facilitate various uses and tasks. The second floor houses the book stacks, while creating quiet places of study and a welcoming lounge-like atmosphere as students come and go from class.
