Central City Library

The city of Central City, NE operates a beloved library with a regional reach. Media circulates among the patrons, program offerings are well attended, and the library is thriving. Due to the library’s success, an interior refresh is required to propel the future uses of the library.

BVH was hired to lead Central City, the library director, and the library board through identifying potential remodel and furniture upgrades that would expand their offerings and elevate their patron experience.

The 7,000 sf library will receive interior finish upgrades starting with the children’s books and program area. A successful Story Time Program has led to constrained space. BVH identified different shelving configurations to provide open floor space that allows additional children and guardians to participate. New finishes throughout the area coupled with appropriately sized furniture will support the needs of the children’s library director.

The adult and teen collection areas will be refreshed with new interior finishes. The existing shelving will be rotated 90 degrees to allow for better sight lines, daylight access, and open floor space for additional seating options. The library director envisions a highly flexible common space where the staff can reorganize furniture to accommodate any size of gathering. The furniture must be comfortable with power options to support your device culture. BVH added a two-sided gas fireplace in the commons area to reinforce the library is a place to hang out and feel comfortable.

The staff areas will undergo the largest transformation to accommodate different workplace strategies. Additional storage with flexible, ergonomic furniture will appoint the staff workstations. Newly reconstituted staff work areas will increase productivity and increase sight lines for improved patron assistance.
