Capital Humane Society

BVH crafted a master plan in 2017 for the Capital Humane Society Admissions & Assessment Center. After a few years of fundraising, the project officially kicked off in late 2019. The main goals of the project were to update the facility to address current facility needs, extend the life of the building to serve the Capital Humane Society for the future, and integrate a design solution that creates a welcoming and relaxed experience for staff, visitors, and animals.

The project focused on completely renovating the interior of the building along with a few impactful exterior improvements. The renovations will span over a three-phase project.

The floor plan layout was reworked to help create a more welcoming and inviting space as well as a space that represents the identity of the Capital Humane Society. Movement of spaces such as the restroom also helped create a more acoustically sound environment contributing to a better atmosphere for both staff and visitors.

A balance of cool and bright colors were chosen to evoke comfort and an inviting feel. Honing in on CHS’ tagline, “Helping pets find their people,” the environmental graphic and brand visuals were designed in-house and celebrate the lasting bond between pet and owner.
