Tori joined the BVH team in October of 2022. A Nebraska Native, Tori returned back to Nebraska after some time in Las Vegas where she grew up. Tori attended The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with a Bachelors of Architecture in Interior Design with a Minor in Business.
While growing up in Las Vegas, Tori found a love for the detail of the skyscrapers and hospitality throughout the city. She later found herself interested in how furniture was laid out in spaces, and what the flow and function of these areas was. While in school she was introduced to furniture and finishes and fell in love with these details, and it has been a passion of hers ever since.
Outside of the studio, you can find Tori in the great outdoors, soaking up the sunshine—taking walks with her dog, driving around her acreage with her husband, and playing yard games. She also enjoys crafting with her sister and mother, as well as decorating cookies with her mother-in-law. Tori’s new pride and joy in life is her little girl, who you can often find soaking up the sunshine right next to her.
What is your area of interest or research?
I find interest in the effect furniture has on the built environment. Ergonomics and how end-users utilize space is what drives me.
What inspires you?
Change and learning through trial and error are things that I have been pushed to live through and embrace. My dad would always ask me to help around the house and with yard work. I always thought it was just to have an extra helping hand, but lately I have come to find that it was to help me endure and problem solve on my own. It was also to have had some extra time together—which I have learned to never take for granted.
What is the most impactful thing you’ve learned over the course of your career?
From the great Albert Einstein, “When you cease to learn, you cease to grow.” Every day is a learning opportunity, if you continue to do the exact same things—design-related or life-related—you will never know what you don’t know. Learning, experiencing, and imagining are necessities of mine to experience my life and my career to its fullest.
