Michael joined BVH in 2025, bringing with him nearly a decade of experience in the field of architecture, having primarily engaged in performing arts and education projects. Michael earned his Masters of Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans, where he was inspired by the harmony of contemporary and historic architecture and culture.
With a passion for sustainable architecture, Micheal produced his Masters thesis on the carbon sequestering potential of mass timber construction, as well as worked on the design team of the first net-zero library in the state of New York.
Outside of the studio, you can find Micheal hiking, camping, cooking, going to see live music, or performing music! Michael has toured, written, and recorded as a guitarist; and has also produced live and studio recordings and taken sound engineering coursework with Berklee College of Music. His favorite bands are Tedeschi Trucks and Alabama Shakes.
What is your area of interest or research?
Performing arts architecture. My background in music has inspired a passion in designing spaces for performing and gathering that are acoustically and technically proficient.
What is your favorite building or who is your favorite architect and why?
Niall McLaughlin is my favorite architect because his work expresses a deep study of form, light, proportion, and texture with remarkable simplicity and clarity.
What is the future of architecture and design?
The future of architecture is in sustainable design—particularly in adaptive reuse of the building stock we already have.
