Marissa Henthorn

Interior Design Intern

mhenthorn@bvh.com

Marissa joined the BVH team following the completion of her Junior year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

A Nebraska native, Marissa grew up in Elkhorn, NE where she discovered her interest in architecture and specifically, interior design. This only made sense, as she spent much of her childhood sketching and space planning her bedroom and dollhouses. To Marissa, it’s all about creating spaces that are beautiful and positively impact the users and the broader environment.

Outside of the studio, you can find Marissa spending time doing what she loves most: crafting, cooking, and hanging out with her dogs, friends, and boyfriend. She also loves to vacation, specifically on a quiet beach with a fantasy or dystopian novel.

What is your area of interest or research?
Because I found my passion and love for design in high school, I have a large interested in K-12 and educational institutions. I think there are lots of improvements to be made to the “traditional” educational facility, and I am excited to look into that more throughout my career.

What inspires you?
Outside of design, my grandma has inspired me my entire life to be creative and crafty. I think this is why I landed where I am today. She also taught me to lead with kindness and empathy, which bleeds into the work I create. I owe a lot of who I am to her, and she inspires me every day!

What is your favorite place you’ve visited?
My favorite place I have visited within the US, is this small California beach town called Hermosa. My family had a condo down there when I was little, so its very nostalgic and is where I found my love for the ocean and sea-life (I wanted to be a marine biologist most of my life!)
