Originally from Omaha, Charlie received his Masters of Architecture from the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Design. He interned with BVH Summer of 2017, and joined the Omaha office as a Project Coordinator in 2025. Charlie enjoys working with stakeholders to weave narratives into design projects—creating lasting meaning in the communities his work serves.

Charlie discovered his love for narrative and storytelling in design school. Subsequently, his design projects have sought to construct meaningful connections with their context by creating contextually sensitive interventions. He finds that being considerate, subtle can lead to evocative architecture. Charlie’s writing has appeared in Architects Newspaper, Untapped, and The New York Review of Architecture, as well as a number of academic journals. He’s written on a variety of topics, from dead motels and Architectural B-sides in Omaha, to the Joslyn Museum of Art’s 2024 addition.

Outside of the studio, Charlie likes to balance his inner nerd with physical activity. He loves to geek out on fantasy novels, Dungeons and Dragons, live music and art, while also finding time to play soccer, run and work out.

What is your area of interest or research?
Creating narratives and telling stories through design is one of my favorite things. I’m especially passionate about finding new and interesting ways to talk about underappreciated or underexamined places.

What is the most impactful thing you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Small things can have a big impact. When someone is going to inhabit a space day in and day out, they begin to notice the little things. Imagining yourself as someone who would be in the building every day helps set the priorities in design.

What are you reading/watching/doing/listening to right now that is inspiring your work?
I just finished Lev Grossman, The Brightsword, and am looking forward to starting Ursula LeGuin’s Earthsea series. Fantasy and Science Fiction novels are a consistent source of inspiration for me. The power authors have to describe and shape worlds through narrative has informed my design process.

What inspires you?
Community-focused design projects often have really inspiring results.
