Charles joined BVH in March of 2025 and has since been thrilled to contribute his skills and passion to the team. Growing up in Bavaria, Germany and living in Europe, Charles developed an early love for design, food, and culture. After completing Germany’s high school equivalent, Charles moved to the U.S. to study Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis—later earning an MBA and transitioning from wine production into planning and sales. Nearly a decade in the wine industry eventually led to a career shift toward architecture, a field that blends scientific precision with creative expression.
Charles earned his Master’s in Architecture from CU Denver, deepening his understanding of how the built environment shapes everyday life. Charles’ interest in architecture stems from its unique ability to blend science with art. Architecture is more than just design; it’s a fusion of creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving.
Outside of the studio, Charles is a master at maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal time. You can find Charles sketching, spending time outdoors, cycling, skiing, and hiking. Above all, he cherishes time spend with family, friends, and his dogs. Family is a cornerstone of Charles’ life, providing him with the support, love, and inspiration needed to pursue his passions professionally and personally.
What is your favorite place you’ve visited?
While I can’t pick a favorite, I really enjoy traveling and getting to know different countries and cultures. There is so much to learn through regional design, cuisine, music, and tradition.
What inspires you?
I only recently got to work on a fire station and found a new inspiration in the design of buildings that serve the community. How can we design buildings that support those who serve the community in ways that strengthen their ability to engage with and support others? I am inspired by that never-ending quest.
What is the most impactful thing you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Continue to challenge yourself. Learn, stay humble. Listen more and talk less…
