Faith-Based

First Covenant Church

First Covenant Church of Omaha, a multigenerational, family-centric faith congregation, asked BVH to develop a facility master plan in 2018. The completed assessment resulted in a two-phased program that would address infrastructure needs, act as a future framework for growth, and become a tool that both current and new members could use to fulfill the church’s mission.

The design includes a new, glass entry inserted into the heart of the original building that features a two-story space atrium. The transparent exterior acts as a beacon in the community by activating the site with enhanced views, inviting natural light during the day, and becoming a glowing focal point at night.

An extended roof form functions both as a drop-off canopy and a shading device for the west-facing glass facade. It integrates design context from the existing architecture but promotes a new contemporary identity that reflects First Covenant’s values.

The interior inspires a variety of dynamic spaces to gather, learn, and socialize. Its openness promotes way-finding and acts as a catalyst for chance encounters among the congregation. A warm wood ceiling compliments the adjacent sanctuary invoking a sense of welcome and comfort.
