Educational Service Unit #3

This project is a continuation of a master plan effort and two previous projects that were completed at ESU#3.

The focus area was the Student Services department on the second floor of the building. The ESU #3 Student Services Department purposefully collaborates with all stakeholders to provide high-quality services, professional learning opportunities, consultation and support for ALL children ages birth-21 and those that care for them.

Through the design process and program development, it was determined that the Student Services department would need mostly private offices, new conference rooms, open collaborative spaces, and flexible spaces that could accommodate new offices in the future.

Due to the existing footprint, it was determined that locating the private offices along the corridor spaces would be the most efficient. This created cores of space in between the offices that could be used by all employees and be shared amenities. Although offices line the exterior walls of the space, it was still important to ensure that light distribution was abundant throughout all of the offices, not just those located on the exterior walls. The overall design solution implemented 9’-0” tall storefront and doors to allow for borrowed light to be present in the more interior spaces.

A new shared large conference room was also implemented in this project and is an element of identity and branding for ESU#3. The environmental graphic includes icons and imagery that represent the rural and urban districts that ESU#3 serves and can be seen from the lower level of the building.
