Ty joined BVH in the summer of 2022 after graduating from the University of Colorado- Denver with his Masters in Architecture. Originally born in Grand Island, NE, Ty grew up in Broomfield, CO and then returned to Lincoln for his undergraduate education at Nebraska Wesleyan University where he studied Environmental Sustainability and Studio Art. He also interned for two years at Tetrad Property Group in Project Management while in Lincoln.
Ty’s interest in architecture peaked during his undergraduate capstone when he studied at the Earthship Biotecture Academy in Taos, NM. The attention to beauty while using completely recycled and repurposed materials sparked a fascination with innovative sustainability, and has been a focus of his work and research since. Ty worked in residential solar design before going back to school for his architecture degree. He currently still works on continued research in sustainability and biomimicry building methods for the National Science Foundation as a part of the Biomimicry Design Alliance organization.
In his free time, you can find Ty in the outdoors exploring the Rocky Mountains with his beautiful wife Kelsey and their Great Dane – Catahoula pooch Luna. He loves paddle boarding, archery, hiking, but most importantly cooking and baking with a glass of wine after a day out. Ty is also an avid crafter, and has yet to find an art project that doesn’t capture his interest.
What is your favorite place you’ve visited?
Thailand (Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Ban Me Sa Mei) I worked on forest restoration while traveling the country and found the cultural differences of the region left a large impact on my worldview. The floating markets and food across the country will always hold a special place in my soul.
How do you engage with your community?
I am a curator for the Global Shapers hub in Boulder, CO, created through the World Economic Forum (WEF), that focuses on volunteering, educational events, impact, and connection in the local community. Getting to work on projects directly with the Boulder community has been a rewarding and educational experience.
