Hannah Underwood

Architectural Intern

Hannah grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and is currently a student at Iowa State University. She has joined BVH as an Architectural Intern and will continue her education in the fall to complete her fifth and final year at ISU. Upon graduating, she will have acquired her Bachelor of Architecture degree.

Her interest in architecture originated in her fascination of older buildings. Reuse and restoration were both ideas that intrigued Hannah from the beginning. Since becoming a student, she has gained a wider perspective of how to see architecture from many points of view, and how to be a great designer and collaborator.

Outside of work, Hannah enjoys traveling, being outside and being with people. She keeps busy at Iowa State between working on projects, being involved in her campus ministry group, and spending time with friends and family.

What is your favorite place you’ve visited?
I recently spent a semester studying in Italy, and my favorite day of the semester was my day trip to Florence. The city is beautiful and bustling, yet very peaceful.

What is your area of interest or research?
I’ve taken some classes in furniture design and fabrication. I love that designing and crafting at a small scale requires great attention to detail, and  I enjoy making things with my hands. I intend to continue making things whether as a hobby or as part of my career.

What inspires you?
Something that I believe is that all people are creators in one way or another. As architects we have one of the greatest opportunities to design and create.
