Practice Director

BVH Architecture is looking for a Practice Director with a passion for leading others through design and professional growth. A successful Practice Director will work with the firm principals, team leaders, and the studio management team to implement the firm vision. Aspects of the vision directly impact BVH’s quality of service through resource scheduling and staffing, project management, and practice management. Additionally, this person inspires, motivates, mentors, and coaches the project teams in achieving design excellence through servant leadership, strong communication, effective and efficient workflows, personal and professional development, and team relationship building.


Practice Management

  • Oversee development and dissemination of project management best practices and project delivery resources, systems and procedure
  • Serve as key conduit between project teams and promote best practices
  • Conduct project debriefings/lessons learned meetings
  • Track and interpret key project performance metrics and initiate appropriate follow up steps with Project Managers
  • Input on professional development and training programs

Resource Scheduling & Staffing

  • Oversee staffing projections
  • Manage project staff scheduling and resource utilization, and approve project staffing requests
  • Input on and participate in project staff hiring (positions, job descriptions, interviewing, etc.)
  • Participate in performance reviews of Team Leads and Project Managers
  • Participate in hiring and development of professional staff

Project Management Advisor

  • Serve as a resource to Project Managers
  • Oversee systems for establishing project budgets
  • Oversee and monitor quality assurance and quality control of contract documents
  • Input on professional development and training programs
  • Oversee development of a Project Management toolkit and training programs
  • Mentor firm’s team leaders and project managers
  • Develop and oversee systems for establishing project budgets, work plans and schedules
  • Approve project fee proposals & budgets
  • Provide advice, resources and support for negotiating and executing client and consultant contracts
  • Participate in internal project kickoff/strategy meetings and project closeout debriefs


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited school
  • 15+ years of experience in architectural design and program management. 
  • 5 years of senior staff management experience preferred 
  • Experience with commercial projects and building long-term relationships with clients
  • Architectural or Interior registration preferred
  • A passion for solving complex technical issues and mentoring designers and project managers
  • Excellent technical and interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed
  • Proven ability to manage large scope operations and provide leadership to multiple levels of management.
