Practice Director / Senior Associate

Steve has worked for more than two decades in the architecture and urban design industry as city planner, community engagement designer and start-up business owner. His passion for building better communities for the people who live in them led Steve to work on projects ranging from comprehensive city plans to downtown redevelopment projects to regional watershed management plans. His passion for community engagement led him to specialize in facilitating citizen involvement and engagement processes for engineering, environmental, community development and urban design projects for areas ranging in scale from neighborhoods to multi-state regions.

Steve leveraged his diverse experience in planning, community engagement and business operations into the role of practice director at BVH. As practice director, he is responsible for directing production methodologies and industry tools and establishing successful teams in the pursuit of design excellence. He works to align team members with opportunities to utilize their skill sets at high levels and encourages personal and professional growth at BVH.

Prior to joining BVH, Steve was a city planner for several public agencies in the Kansas City metropolitan area and a city planning and community engagement consultant, where he worked on projects throughout the Great Plains and Mountain West. He was one of the founders of an innovative online community engagement company that worked with cities and design firms across the United States, Canada and Australia.

Steve is married to Jana, and together they have three daughters. They love to travel and in the past few years have explored South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the desert Southwest.
