Matt Smith, AIA, LEED AP

Architect / Associate

Matt is a licensed architect who joined BVH in 2014. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, NCARB certified and a LEED-accredited professional. He grew up in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. He attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and received a Bachelors of Science in Design in 2006 and a master of architecture in 2008.

Matt is knowledgeable in the planning, design and preparation of construction documents and specifications for a variety of project types, including historic renovations, religious, retail/office, multi-family residential, schools and medical facilities. He is interested in architecture because of the ability for a built environment to have a positive impact on someone’s life. The sense of wonder and those positive experiences a building can convey is something that motivates him in all aspects of what he does every day.

Matt’s personal interests include spending time with his wife, daughter and son, playing sports, golfing and home renovation/restoration projects.

What is the favorite place you have visited?
Monterey Bay, California.

What are you optimistic about?
I am optimistic that my children will be able to grow up and live in a community with sustainable values, and that it is our responsibility to ensure this future.

How do you engage your community?
Our family takes part in our local neighborhood growth and development and also involvement with multiple school activities.

What is your area of interest or research?
My main areas of interest include developing sustainable built environments for the community to use, utilizing natural products whenever possible.

What is your inspiration?
I am inspired to have the opportunity to create a physical product for a community and its ability to have a positive impact with the people it serves.
