Architect / Principal

Jim joined BVH in summer 1998 after working for 11 years as a partner at The Architectural Partnership in Lincoln, Nebraska. He started his career in Casper, Wyoming, in 1980 with two different firms there and moved to Nebraska in 1987. Jim grew up in Watford City, North Dakota, and attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota, graduating in 1980.

At first his interest in architecture was born out of an ability to see things three dimensionally and an interest to transfer his ideas to paper. This was done primarily through drawing, art and model building. As he began to study architecture, he discovered a much broader scope of what architecture is. His interest quickly moved from art and drawing to design. Jim found the challenge of developing a simple concept/ideal into a building design the most challenging thing he has ever been a part of, and he still feels that way today. He likes working with people, so he has thoroughly enjoyed the collaboration BVH has with clients and stakeholders.

Jim’s hobbies are travel, reading, sketching and golf. He is the 10th of 11 children, eight boys and three girls. His wife’s name is Kim.
